301 East Mountain View, Big Bear City, CA 92314

Property Description

Heralded by The Bear Valley Voice as a “perfect example of Guy Maltby’s work”, this Maltby-built cabin is rich with rustic character and architectural details that embody his work. The rounded log exterior, a welcoming covered porch, whimsical landscaping, and the signature stone chimney, are reminiscent of early mountain retreats in the area. Stepping inside, dramatic architectural features complement one another in the living room to create a stunning space: exposed timber trusses, vaulted tongue-and-groove ceilings, rich natural log walls. Likely crafted by artist and sculptor Fred P. Humphrey, a frequent Maltby collaborator, the stately hand-laid stone fireplace is the anchor of the living room. A central hall off of the living room opens to 2 bedrooms and a remodeled bathroom. Currently optioned as a 3rd bedroom, there is another flex space off the living room. With a lot size over 6,000 square feet, this home offers abundant yard space. The rear of the home offers expansive patios under the shade of the mature tree canopy. The balance of the lot is open, teeming with potential, and easily accessible from the double driveway gates. During their ownership, the current owners have invested in a new roof, new windows, insulated roof and sub floor, and electrical updating. Surrounded by mature trees and natural mountain landscaping, this historic Maltby cabin offers a unique opportunity to own a piece of Big Bear's architectural history.
